The Museum’s Mission
The mission of the Notranjska Museum Postojna is defined in Article 10 of the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 48/2018, dated July 13, 2018. It can be summarized as follows:
"The primary mission of the public institute within the organizational unit Notranjska Museum Postojna is the continuous and uninterrupted provision of public services and the inventory, registration, and accession of movable cultural and natural heritage in the fields of archaeology, biology, ethnology, fine arts, history, art history, and karstology for the areas of the municipalities of Cerknica, Bloke, Logatec, Loška dolina, Postojna, and Pivka for which it is authorized. With its five departments (archaeological, biological, ethnological, historical, and pedagogical) and a conservation-restoration workshop, the institute appropriately preserves, protects, researches, and presents movable cultural and natural heritage through permanent and temporary exhibitions, publishing, and educational activities. It popularizes and emphasizes its significance and role in the past, which is essential in strengthening national consciousness and identity."
The public institute is qualified for identifying, documenting, evaluating, interpreting, inventorying, safeguarding, storing, and researching movable heritage and presenting it to the public. This enables the comprehensive fulfillment of the mission as described above and places it among museums qualified to perform state public service.
Our Vision
Our vision is to be a modern and accessible museum that collaborates with various stakeholders. At the same time, we aim to build the museum's recognition in the local, regional, and international environment.
The museum is not just an exhibition that visitors can view. The museum consists of people and experts, including curators, who collect, document, study, present, and preserve important heritage for future generations. As such, we would like to highlight our work across various departments.
