Do you know the song “Sound of da Police”?
Today, our museum was visited by rapper KRS-One, who completely captivated us with his energy. While exploring the “Karst Museum,” he came in search of nature — and found graffiti instead! Fascinated by the exhibition “Crime and the Fruit,” which explores the many layers and meanings of graffiti, he promised to return in the coming months to give a lecture at our museum.
KRS-One, whose real name is Lawrence Krisna Parker, is considered one of the most influential figures of old-school hip hop. He rose to fame in the 1980s as the leader of the group Boogie Down Productions and became known for his socially conscious lyrics, political commentary, and promotion of conscious rap. His stage name stands for “Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone.” Among his best-known classics are Sound of da Police, My Philosophy, and MC's Act Like They Don't Know.
KRS-One is currently in the middle of his major European tour, “My Philosophy European Tour 2026,” which includes around 40 cities across Europe.
According to reactions from concertgoers and fans on Reddit, KRS-One is still regarded as one of the greatest old-school live MCs. Many people especially highlight his energy, freestyle performances, and strong connection with the audience.
At the museum, he was welcomed by the curators of the exhibition “Crime and the Fruit,” Dr. Tine Kaluža and Ana Čič, who introduced him to the exhibition’s concept and the themes it explores. KRS-One donated his book The Gospel of Hip Hop and a signed poster of The Hip Hop Declaration of Peace to the museum. In return, the exhibition authors presented him with the publication Crime and the Fruit: Reflections on Graffiti and the book Rock Postojna. KRS-One also left his mark on the museum’s “graffiti wall” and promised that he would visit us again.
